~ What Hippocrates Kind of Knew ~
Most of us who are familiar with natural wellness principles have heard of Hippocrates and his teachings many times. One of his most accurate and profound statements was that “all disease begins in the gut” and what is most impressive about his declaration is that he said this more than 2,000 years ago. It is amazing how a person with very limited resources could have crafted such an accurate phrase. He would be astounded to know how much humanity has taken his words and continued to build on them. He would also be disappointed to learn how much people have taken those same words for granted.
Today, science is helping us understand how correct he actually was. Research over the past ten years has shown us that gut health is critical to overall health and that an unhealthy gut contributes to a wide range of diseases including inflammatory bowel diseases, cancers, obesity, diabetes, autism, and asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, depression and chronic fatigue syndrome.
Supplied with hundreds of new clinical studies, leading researchers continually confirm and expound upon what Hippocrates asserted so long ago regarding the gut’s role in health and disease. Due to rapidly evolving advances in microbiological analytic techniques and molecular biology, the diversity of microorganisms that inhabit the gastrointestinal tract of humans is becoming more understood than ever before.
Many of these researchers now believe that supporting intestinal health and restoring the integrity of the gut barrier is one of the most important aspects of medicine and wellness in the 21st century. This month’s article has some new and unique information about one of the most important parts of the body and one of the most important supplements you can put in it!
Dietary & Supplemental Nucleotides
DNA resides inside each and every cell and carries our genetic blueprint. There is a specific need for nucleotides to be available in cells that divide often. This is particularly the case for immune cells. Immune cells have to divide rapidly in order to respond to any type of infection. Where are most of these cells located? – In the GUT.
Perhaps most importantly, the cells lining our digestive tract, or the intestinal villi, are frequently replaced and are always in of need of nucleotides for healthy reproduction. The body can recycle nucleotides from worn out cells (this is known as the salvage pathway) or can make new nucleotides from sources such as glucose and glutamine. The problem is that this process is not energy-efficient; it takes time and is straining metabolically. Therefore, since the body has a somewhat limited capacity to provide nucleotides on its own, it is able to extract them from foods or utilize supplemental nucleotides that provide substantial quantities.
Nucleotides have become a point of interest for researchers in the field of food allergies and sensitivities. This is because the gut and the immune system are very reliant on nucleotides that are readily supplied to meet the very fast turnover of cells. Nucleotides regulate the expression of inflammatory reactions in the intestine. An interesting mechanism of action in infants is that nucleotides boost the production of immunoglobulins and increase the tolerance of food. Another fascinating outcome is that nucleotides significantly increase the length of intestinal villi, the structures that make up the vast surface of our gastrointestinal tract. When supplemental nucleotides are provided, improvements were found in patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), a very common gastrointestinal disease.
What is Leaky Gut
A common disorder that develops when lesions form on the intestinal lining. These lesions have abnormally large spaces between the cell walls, allowing toxic material to seep into the bloodstream. Autism, rheumatoid arthritis, periodontal disease, chronic fatigue syndrome, Crohn’s disease and colitis all stem from the inflammation triggered by a leaky gut. Conditions such as small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) are a few examples of conditions that may cause leaky gut. Malabsorption of nutrients, candida and parasitic infections along with food sensitivities and allergies are also connected with leaky gut syndrome. Inflammatory skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis and acne indicate a leaky gut too.
In simple words, the intestinal lining replaces all of its cells every seven days. This lining is highly dependent on a sufficient supply of nucleic acids to completely regenerate. Defective regeneration of the intestinal mucosal lining impairs the enzymatic stages of digestion, which leads to a vicious cycle of deteriorating digestion and nutrient status. Intestinal flora derives its energy from mucin, which is secreted by a healthy mucous membrane. Mucin is a glycoprotein that bonds glucose with amino acids. Mucus protects the lining of the stomach and intestines from mechanical damage, enzymes, gastric acid, astringent bile, and foodborne pathogens. The deficiency of nucleotides curbs the bodies’ ability to produce mucin and, correspondingly, the bacteria’s ability to function and procreate.
In very simple terms there are multiple reasons in today’s society for good bacteria being destroyed. In order for the gut flora to restore itself, it must have a healthy intestinal lining which is where nucleotide supplementation becomes crucial to prevent Leaky Gut (Intestinal Permeability).
REgen DNA COMPLETE is a comprehensive formula containing the purest form of nucleotides, amino acids and iron complex.
REgen is a food supplement that is produced on a purely natural basis. It provides a balance of the most efficient plant and animal materials. REgen’s nucleotides provide benefits including, supporting the immune system as well as being a catalyst for cell regeneration. Nucleotides accelerate the healing process and have been shown to be effective in combating fatigue and the adverse effects of stress. They are absorbed from the digestive system in an active form, selecting only the substances they need for managing performance, avoiding stress, bio-dysfunction and improving the metabolism.
Some of the benefits of Nucleotides include:
• Supports Absorption of Supportive Nutrients Required for Cellular Immunity
• Increases Intestinal Integrity, Maturation, and Bowel Flora
• Helps to Speed up Tissue Regeneration
• Supports the Digestive Tract, Kidneys, and Liver
• Helps to Improve Physical, Mental, and Sexual Life
• Eliminates Feelings of Weakness and Depressions
• Reduces Tiredness and Relieves Insomnia
• Breaks Down Body Fat Reserves to Support Weight Reduction
• Non-toxic, Non-addictive with NO Harmful Side Effects
Immune Support • By using highly efficient natural substances, such as essential nucleotides, amino acids, oligopeptides and trace elements, nucleotides are able to support the body’s immunity and effect cell regeneration. Nucleotides are introduced into the digestive tract in active form thus allowing the body to absorb only the substances it needs for optimizing performance, avoiding stress and disease, and to improve metabolism during a disease. Nucleotides regulate the body’s stamina by modulating the cellular and hormonal function of the immune system.
Tissue Regeneration • In order to sustain health, virtually every tissue in the body must regenerate itself regularly. Any tissue, in order to regenerate, requires the ability to make DNA and RNA to support the process of making new cells. Providing readily absorbed and assimilated nucleotides can be one of the most powerful ways to assist any tissue to repair and renew itself.
Intestinal Integrity, Maturation, and Bowel Flora • Dietary nucleotides can have a profound effect on intestinal integrity, maturation and bowel flora. The intestinal lining replaces all of its cells every seven days. Only a single layer, this lining is highly dependent on a sufficient supply of nucleic acids to completely regenerate itself every week. If nutritional support is inadequate, defective regeneration of the intestinal mucosal lining impairs the enzymatic stages of digestion, which can lead to a vicious cycle of deteriorating digestion and nutritional status. Upon administration of supplemental nucleotides, the appearance of the intestinal lining will significantly improve, with the regeneration of the height of the absorptive intestinal villi. In addition, the enzyme content and function of the Intestinal lining will also greatly improve.
Antimicrobial peptides and proteins (AMPP) • AMPP’s have enormous importance for human health, because they kill microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa) on the interfaces between the external and internal environment of the body (intestine, lung, skin, urinary tract) and protects the circulatory system from the penetration of microbes (Yu & comp. 2010). AMPP regulate immune response and slows dangerous inflammatory response, which is harmful to the body.
Memory Enhancement & Healthy Aging • Improved intestinal lining with the regeneration of the height of the absorptive intestinal villi. This significantly increases the bioavailability of critical nutrients from our foods and supplements.
Longevity • It is perhaps functional nucleic acid deficiency that limits our potential for healthy longevity more than any other single factor. Of all the interventions that have ever been attempted to increase the life span of mammals, no method ever studied has been more powerful for mammalian life extension than nucleic acid supplementation. Compared to other techniques that have increased the longevity of experimental animals up to 50%, administering nucleic acids has doubled and even tripled the usual maximum life span.
Increased ATP • ATP stands for adenosine triphosphate, perhaps the most important of all the nucleic acid derivatives in the body. Virtually every activity in the body that requires energy uses ATP as the source of power.
Wound Healing & Endocrine Gland Repair • Some of the tiniest organs in the body have the most profound effects on our health and wellbeing. These are the endocrine glands that secrete minute amounts of hormones into the blood without which every function of the body can suffer. Nucleotides can thus be a very powerful supplementation to sustain and boost the functions of the most vital glands in the body. These glands set our level of energy, our ability to respond to stress, our capacity to maintain strong immune defenses, the hydration of our bodies, and a wide range of hormone balances essential to a high quality of life.
The positive effects that nucleotides have on enhancing the immune system’s ability to combat illness and neutralize the consequences of a deteriorating environment make it an important health consideration for those individuals who are concerned with maintaining a healthy lifestyle especially as they age. Nucleotide supplementation is thus one of the most rejuvenating, immune enhancing, and tissue supporting regimens ever to be discovered.
The Science of REgen Nucleotides
There is a very significant amount of nucleotides found within REgen, beside the other critical components. Those (nucleotides) span of 12 – 21% of the total volume. For this reason, we consider this product to be a significant regenerative supplement for immunity functions of the organism, as it was documented in a conference on nucleotides in San Diego, as well as in our article in magazine Czech Hygienic (1997). At the present time our nucleotides are used in many products intended for peroral supplementation of patients, mainly in after accident/surgery state (see World Congress in Munich, March 2000) and at patients in pre-surgery state. Numerous publications are showing a reduction of 40-80% in post-surgery complications and after accident infectious complication. From our own experience, we can state that supplementation with the formula has great influence on the regeneration of intestinal cells and the height of villi. It suppresses pathological changes of the mucous membrane in intestines.
Supplementation influences the function of the liver and regeneration and proliferation of immunocompetent cells. The product also functions as a regulating factor in hemopoiesis. Adding of nucleotides increases total immune capacity at the cellular level and in humoral immunity. It increases the activity of NK- cells. Supplementation with this product in higher doses works very well in the regeneration of function of secretion immunity. We have proved increased resistance against infections of the respiratory tract in children’s population.
The effect of individual amino acids on immunity mechanisms has been known and described for a longer time. In those works, it shows a significant effect on repair of antitoxin and also cellular immunity response. For example, methionine increases antitoxin response and decreases the risk of bacterial infections. Phenylalanine shows practically the same function. Lower levels of arginine, lysine, histidine are related to the substantial reduction of cellular functions and also antitoxin response. Polypeptides are known to be able to modulate the ability of antitoxin immunity. Iron effects immune response by direct mechanism. It is known that transferrin saturated by iron has significant antivirus effect. Further, significant effect is considered to be the influence of iron on the utilization of iodine, which means a significant contribution in a solution of inadequate iodine level problem in population. The groups of vitamins B can also be applied in the regulation of immunity response, mainly in influencing of antitoxin response (thiamin, riboflavin). Both these vitamins have been proved to be linked with prevention of a number of infectious diseases.
All living organisms are protected from parasitic microorganisms by the immune system. One of the important factors of the immune system immediate protection is its own substances that have an antimicrobial effect. They either stop the proliferation of microbes or kill them directly. Such antimicrobial substances were first discovered in the human body, by the discoverer of penicillin Sir Alexander Fleming in 1922. His discovery, unfortunately, did not have many followers. And other similar substances were discovered 40 years later. Today (over fifty years later) we know that these substances are found in all living organisms and represent a fundamental pillar of innate immunity.
Throughout the animal kingdom can be several million different substances with antimicrobial effect. They are species-specific and, moreover, for each species, there are dozens of various substances. Many hundreds of them have been discovered in mammals and dozens of people. They occur in all tissues, but their number is highest in white blood cells, in the glands and secretions, mucous membranes and other barriers of the organism (see a recent review of Dr.Sima & comp. 2003). Most of them are peptides, but since these also include small proteins, thus they are appropriately called AMPP – antimicrobial peptides and proteins.
AMPP have enormous importance for human health, because they kill particularly transit microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa) on the interfaces between the external and internal environment of the body (intestine, lung, skin, genitor-urinary tract) and protects the circulatory system from the penetration of microbes (Yu & comp. 2010). Residential harmless commensal microflora of the skin and mucous membranes is living in an environment containing AMPP.
What Are Nucleotides?
Nucleotides are organic molecules that serve as the monomers, or subunits, of nucleic acids like DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) and RNA (ribonucleic acid). The building blocks of nucleic acids, nucleotides are composed of a nitrogenous base, a five-carbon sugar (ribose or deoxyribose), and at least one phosphate group. Thus a nucleoside plus a phosphate group yields a nucleotide.
Nucleotides also function to carry packets of energy within the cell in the form of the nucleoside triphosphates (ATP, GTP, CTP and UTP), playing a central role in metabolism. In addition, nucleotides participate in cell signaling (cGMP and cAMP), and are incorporated into important cofactors of enzymatic reactions (e.g. coenzyme A, FAD, FMN, NAD, and NADP+).

Nucleotides: A Review and Current Advances
Dietary nucleotides have recently been related to the construction of normal immune response. But it also appears that they can take part in a number of biological functions and that they are the basis of genetic codes (DNA, RNA). They also serve as a reserve of energy and mediate hormonal effects (cANP). Effects of dietary nucleotides were followed in detail in literature mainly by Japanese and American research institutes. It is evident that dietary nucleotides do not only take part in increasing cellular activity but also humoral mechanisms and secretion immunity. Dietary nucleotides have also been shown to create an effect on the repair of intestine tenue (thin intestine).
REgen is made from natural sources based on auto enzymatic disintegration of the macromolecular protein component. The product of this biotechnology is subject to long-term non-destructive careful extraction with a follow/up natural separation of a set of active low-molecular substances having a catalytic effect on specific internal secretion glands while influencing favorably the intermedial metabolism of cells.
The endogenous supply of nucleotides is maintained de novo synthesis and the salvage pathway. Because there are metabolically costly processes, it is more efficient to use already formed nucleotides. This is particularly true in rapidly dividing tissues, such as intestinal and lymphoid tissues, which require nucleotides for the synthesis of nucleic acids. One DNA replication requires at least 109 nucleotide molecules. An exogenous source of nucleotides, such as dietary supplement, could optimize the tissue function by sparing the cost of de novo synthesis or salvage.
So to review, if you would like to maintain optimal gut health to support a functioning immune system and receive optimal benefits from your nutrition you can now understand the importance of nucleotides and their function in digestive health. And perhaps we now better understand what Hippocrates was talking about.
REgen Did Wonders For My LEAKY GUT
“I started taking REgen nine weeks ago for my diagnosed leaky gut. So far my digestion has improved dramatically, and my bowel movements are now getting back to normal. I also found that I’m sleeping better, and my bouts of depression have diminished. I also noticed that my food intolerance was improved, and I don’t get the same negative reactions I used to. I know it’s the REgen because I was so frustrated that I stopped all of my supplements thinking one was creating my problem. Two weeks later I discovered REgen, and that is the only supplement I am currently on. Thanks for developing such a ‘life-saving’ product.” — NA, E. Canaan, CT
REgen Helps Woman With Breast Cancer
“After using REgen I had better Digestion (More Bowl Movements, Less Constipation), Less Fatigue, Clearer Thinking and Better Sleep. I believe REgen helped shrink my tumors. When I stopped the REgen, my numbers went up. When I restarted the REgen again, my numbers went down. — Brenda N., Florida
REgen Helps Patient With CCL Leukemia
